Matari

Privacy notice and data retention

Last updated October 28, 2026. Family beta.

Matari is designed for children aged 6 to 9, used together with a parent or guardian. We follow children's privacy laws including the amended COPPA rule (United States), PIPEDA (Canada) and Quebec's Law 25. We collect as little as we can.

Who has an account

Only parents and guardians. You sign in with your email; there are no passwords. Children never create accounts or give an email.

What we collect

  • Your email address, to sign you in and send recaps you ask for.
  • Your consent choices and your child's age band (4–5, 6–7 or 8–9). Never their name, photo, birthday or location.
  • A picture your child picks from a fixed list, and a made-up maker name like “Captain Comet”. Please help your child pick a made-up name, not their real one. Names with numbers, emails or other personal details are refused.
  • The games your child makes, including a screenshot for your library.
  • Simple activity during a session (taps, timings, which rules were used, quiz answers), to measure whether Matari helps children learn.
  • Only if you tick the separate research consent: the text of what your child says, with personal details removed. Anything containing personal information or something upsetting is not kept at all.

What we never collect or keep

  • Voice recordings. Speech is turned into text by our speech provider and the audio is discarded right away.
  • Advertising or tracking data. There are no ads and no third-party analytics.
  • Anything about friends who play a shared game.

Service providers

We use Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (Matari and game making), OpenAI (speech-to-text) and ElevenLabs (Matari's voice). We use their API settings that exclude your data from model training. Resend sends recap emails if you ask for one.

Sharing

There is no public gallery, chat or messaging. A game is shared only if you create a link, and you can turn the link off at any time. A shared link shows the game only, never your child's ideas, maker name or anything you said.

How long we keep data

  • Session activity and any transcripts are deleted automatically after 12 months.
  • Games stay in your library until you delete them.
  • The “Delete all our data” button in your library removes your games, sessions, activity log and account immediately.

Your rights

You can see, correct or delete your family's data, withdraw consent, or ask us questions at any time. Reply to your Matari invite email and we'll respond within 30 days.
